Does your little one love police cars and police officers? Then join us for a visit to the Petaluma Police Station!

Note: You must be registered for this event.

Participants of this fun event will get to see a bunch of police vehicles, talk to an officer, and meet the department's K9 Officer, Pinky!

Since the Petaluma Police Department doesn't allow visitors inside under the age of 7, this will be an outdoor event. You won't get to see inside the department, but you will get to go inside a bunch of police vehicles, like the SWAT rescue vehicle, command bus, and CSI van (assuming they are not being used that day).

    Some questions you may have...

    1) Are babies / strollers allowed?

Yes! Babies are allowed in strollers or carriers. But you must register all children when you sign up for this event.

    2) Are snacks allowed?

Yes! You may bring snacks, but please clean up after yourself. The PMC will not be providing any snacks.

Other questions? Just reply to this email and we'll get back to you.

Experience “Sheep to Sweater” at Petaluma Adobe’s Sheep Shearing Day

    Saturday, April 12th, 2025 | 11:00am - 2:00pm

How does wool come off sheep? How does raw wool turn into yarn? Come to the Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12th and find out! Heritage breed sheep from local farm animal rescue Flat Broke Farm will be losing their winter coats under the expert guidance of shearer John Sanchez. After the sheep are sheared, you can have fun learning how to turn the raw wool into yarn, the first steps to making a sweater. Volunteers will teach how to card and drop spin wool as rancho workers would have in the 1830’s. Docents will be on site to give guided tours, so bring a picnic and spend the day at the Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park.

The Petaluma Adobe served as the headquarters for General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo’s 66,000-acre cattle rancho from 1836 to 1846. Over 3,000 sheep were raised during that time and sheep shearing was a necessary part of rancho life. The wool was turned into clothing, blankets and rugs and sent out to trade ships.

California State Parks is excited to partner with the non-profit Flat Broke Farm. Flat Broke Farm is Sonoma County’s longest operating farm rescue and has helped over 4,500 animals. Founder and Director Erica Gregory said “Flat Broke Farm rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes all domestic farm animals. All the sheep being used for this demonstration are available for adoption. Stop by our Flat Broke Farm booth for more information about farm animals and learn about incredible eggs.”

California State Parks, in cooperation with Sonoma Petaluma Parks and Flat Broke Farm, presents Sheep Shearing Day. No dogs are allowed at this event.

Admission fee: $3.00 for adults 18 and older, children 6 to 17 are $2.00, 5 and under are free. Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park is located at 3325 Adobe Road on the east side of Petaluma. California State Parks supports equal access. Prior to arrival, visitors with disabilities who need assistance should contact: Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park (707) 762-4871.

As we slide into spring, let's get outside and enjoy nature and our lovely community in Petaluma with a scavenger hunt for families. Much like our fall scavenger hunt at Helen Putnam back in September, we will have a page of things to hunt for (this time we will include some "hidden" objects/characters to find) and kids can get a small prize if they find a minimum number of things from the provided list.

Come check in at the PMC table any time between 9:30 and 10:30. Be sure to be back to the table by 11:30 to get a prize for hunting! The table will be near the playground part of the park, near the restrooms, too.

This is a family event, so feel free to bring the fam for this search around McNear Park. Be prepared for the whatever the weather holds, so keep an eye on the forecast at the date approaches. McNear is a nice flat park, but some parts are paved and others are grassy, so pick your shoes wisely! Also, strollers will be fine on the paved portions and sidewalks surrounding the park.

After hunting feel free to hang around and play at the playground or even set up your own picnic! Remember that the last time to snag a hunt prize is 11:30 though.

Be aware- if it is actively raining, we may postpone the event. If it is damp and/or cloudy the event will go on as planned!

Please join the PMC and Ziba Ansari-Orlando for a lecture about her learnings and thoughts on the topic of stress. We will touch upon conditioning, belief systems, emotions and so much more. At the end she will invite you to go on a healing journey, to experience with her first hand a Trans-Somatic Healing Session. The power of these sessions is ineffable.

Ziba desires a world where humans can unapologetically and authentically share their gifts with one another. She believes one of the biggest ways to contribute to the world is to understand one’s self, and with that is to know our wounds. Similar to others taking the motherhood journey, after the birth of her daughter seven years ago, she found herself in various activities to answer the big questions in life. She has trained and taught yoga class to adults and elementary school children, dabbled in various energy medicine courses, became a parent coach and followed her heart, when she wrote and self-published a children’s book.

A few years ago Ziba began a deep dive into understanding the psycho-emotional landscape of human complexities. When not working as a hospital and ambulatory care pharmacist, she is hosting, leading or attending retreats, all of which move her soul. She is currently in a year-long Mystic Artist group and is immersed in completion of her ‘somatic healing’ training, which is the idea that we can access the body to learn about our deepest layers of wounds.
